It doesn't matter if your car is 1 week old or 10 years old, knowing when your next oil change should be is very important. It is also important to know how to check your own oil in the event you notice a leak or are unsure when the last change was performed. The difference between clean and dirty oil has a profound impact on how well your vehicle runs. Make sure to read your owners manual and note how often you need to change your oil and what type of oil it uses. The common rule has been to change your oil every 3,000 miles however, with some new engines and advances in oil technology some vehicles may go as long as 10,000 miles! At North Point Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram we encourage regular oil changes because keeping your car running for a long time is a BIG Deal!

Why Should I Change My Car or Trucks Oil?

Motor oil lubricates all the moving parts in your engine. Your engines oil prevents friction from occurring which causes excess heat. This excessive heat on internal engine components may cause abnormal wear and tear, leading them to fail. Without regular oil changes, oil gets dirty and thick with contaminants and even some metal from your engine block. This sludgy oil can cause build up on your crankshaft, valves, and pistons... Engine damage happens when parts that need oil, cannot get the oil they need.

Engine repairs can be very expensive and in some cases, more than the value of the vehicle! This can all be avoided by keeping up with your regular oil changes.
